What is coaching?

Coaching is a relatively new tool in the area of professional and personal development. It can be used to help individuals or teams move forwards in a specific area of their life in order to achieve the results they want. Unlike many types of therapy, coaching is focussed on the future and achieving results in terms of goals and objectives. The coach is committed to the belief that the individual has all the resources necessary to achieve their goals, and the coach’s role is to provide focus and clarity.

Who is coaching for?

Coaching is for people who would like to achieve a certain goal in their life, but who can find it very difficult to get started or to retain focus on their objective. A coach is there to support the individual in their progress, to encourage them, and to help them look at obstacles objectively so that they can be overcome.

The individual needs to have a goal and needs to be prepared to work to achieve it. The coach is not there to do this for the client. The coach is there to help the client look at the issue and decide how best to move forwards.

How does the coaching take place?

The coaching can take place either in a face-to-face meeting, by telephone, by email, or by a combination of these. It really is a question of what suits the client best, depending on budget and location.

The frequency of the conversations can also be tailored to suit the needs of the client. It is normal practice to have a conversation of some kind every two or three weeks, but this can vary according to each coaching programme.

In between the conversations the client will have a number of tasks set to work on and help them achieve their goals. They report on the progress to the coach and look at any issues which have arisen. These, in turn, may open new goals and objectives for the client to work on.

Shaun North

I am a qualified coach who offers coaching to those who would like to take action to achieve their goals and aspirations in life.

I specialise in the following areas:

Executive/Management Coaching

There are a number of obstacles which can prevent a manager of executive within a large organisation from achieving higher levels of performance. These issues are often connected to the culture of the company or simply ‘the way things are done round here’. By employing an external coach the client can successfully challenge these beliefs and move the performance of both themselves and their team to a higher plane.

Small Business & Entrepreneur Coaching

There are so many people who have an idea for a business but never get round to starting it. Sometimes they may then see their idea launched by someone else and can only look on as the company flourishes. By employing a coach these people can be supported in thinking through the idea carefully and then move towards launching the company they have dreamed about.

Career Coaching

There are some people who would like to advance their career within their organisation and chosen profession but would appreciate support and assistance in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to do this. Coaching helps individuals become more responsible for their own career progression, and helping them to access the resources they have inside themselves to achieve their goals. This area of coaching is also appropriate for those people who may be wondering if they are in the right career or who would like to start something new but have difficulty to summoning the energy and courage to do so.

Work – Life Balance Coaching

Many individuals who have a successful career are also aware that they don’t appear to have the time outside of the workplace to spend with family members or to do the things they want. Through coaching it is possible to re-examine an individual’s priorities and beliefs so that more time and energy is available outside of the workplace.

How much does coaching cost?

Because of the different formats of coaching I offer there is no single price for my services. Prices also depend on the length of the coaching assignment and the frequency, as well as whether the coaching takes place face-to-face, by telephone or email or a combination of these options. I would be pleased to discuss your needs with you and provide an offer for my services.
